Tape-less Display of Holiday Cards

One of my favorite things about the holiday season is receiving greeting cards from long-time friends and extended family. I love checking the mailbox every day to find a handful of envelopes with photos, notes or cards inside. The best part of the entire process is deciding how to display this holiday cheer; throwing them in a minature sleigh just won’t do them justice. This year I created a mini clothesline and displayed the cards using clothespins. It was quick to assemble on an empty wall using fishing line and painters tape. I had to add the finishing touch of mini-presents for extra holiday spirit.

Are you looking to display your cards in a unique way? Here’s how:

Let’s Get Creative!
What you’ll need:

Painters tape
clear fishing line
scrap of wrapping paper
scissors
mini clothespins
holiday cards 🙂

1. Place a piece of painters tape flat across the end of the fishing line and place it at the far right edge of your wall.(Point A) The excess line should hang out the left. You will be creating a zig-zag pattern with the fishing line.

2. Pull the loose end of the fishing line slightly downward at a diagonal to the left. Leave a little slack in the line. Add another piece of tape flat against the line to secure.(Point B) Do not cut the fishing line!

3. To continue the zig-zag pattern, pull the fishing line back to the right. Before securing another point(C),you need to reinforce the fishing line that now covers Point B. Holding the downward right angle in place with your right hand, use your left hand to reinforce the fishing line over point B with another piece of painters tape.

4. Continue until you have enough zig-zags for all your holiday photos, reinforcing points along the way.

5. When I was done making the fishing line pattern, I was left with 12 ugly pieces of blue tape. Use a scrap of wrapping paper and cut 2-inch squares to cover the tape. Cut two, 2-inch bits of wrapping ribbon and make a t shape across each square of wrapping paper. Secure with one piece of clear scotch tape. Secure your tiny presents using a small piece of scotch tape.

6. Hang you holiday cards on the fishing line using clothespins. I bought both mini and small clothespins to use for cards with varying weights. When hanging cards keep in mind the amount of weight on each line and make sure they don’t overlap each other.

7. Bring your friends over to teach them how to make a unique display like yours! Or just send them our way, and we’ll take care of it… 🙂
